Surgical Technique
There are several approaches to the brow lift procedure in Richmond, VA. The type of brow lift used depends on multiple factors, including the severity of brow drooping, the shape of the brow, and the position of the hairline.
Direct Brow Lift
A direct brow lift places an incision in the natural crease of the forehead just above the eyebrow. Excess skin is excised, and when the brow is closed, this lifts the brow to a higher level. The disadvantage of this approach is that the scars are not hidden in the hair as they would be with other types of brow lifts.
Coronal Brow Lift
This technique repositions the eyebrows by pulling them up to offer an alert, revitalized appearance. In this approach, incision lines are placed several inches above the hairline. While the incisions are relatively long, they are generally concealed by the patient’s hair, which sometimes must be removed to close the coronal brow lift incision.
This particular approach offers dramatic results and normally repositions the hairline higher. However, the disadvantage of this approach is that the scars can sometimes be visible, and hair loss along the incision can exacerbate this.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
This approach utilizes several small (one-inch or smaller) incisions near the hairline in the scalp. An endoscope (specialized camera) is placed for visualization. Special instruments are used to release and reposition the brows, and the brow and scalp are fixed with sutures in their new positions.
Dr. Bridges frequently performs a modification of the classic endoscopic brow lift, which produces the same results but does not utilize the multiple access incisions typically used for an endoscopic approach. A single incision in the temporal hair is made on both sides, and then rhinoplasty retractors are used to elevate the brows under direct vision. This procedure repositions the brows in an anatomically favorable vector, resulting in a very natural improvement in brow position and shape. This procedure avoids the surprised look that can result from over-elevation of the medial brows.
